SANDAG recently awarded the City of El Cajon a Smart Growth Incentive Program planning grant to develop a land use and mobility plan around the El Cajon Transit Center. The Transit District Specific Plan (TDSP or Plan) proposes a new long-range vision for the approximately 260-acres surrounding the El Cajon Transit Center or Trolley. The property values around the trolley will greatly benefit from this grant as the purpose of the program is to provide a land use and mobility framework that provides a new vision for the area to include transit-supportive land uses, improved mobility options, and enhanced streetscapes and public space. The TDSP changes the zoning of many properties to attract higher-density residential and commercial uses to complement the Transit Station.
